Murray Rose began playing drums at 4 years old. According to him, “at about that time, I was just able to reach the floor if I sat on the edge of the drum throne.” As a result of being heavily influenced by his Father’s drumming, Murray became drawn to his Father’s drum set. His Father was a Big-band drummer who played with Sammy Kaye, Michael Pedicin Senior, Fred Waring, Park Frankenfield, and many others. “My Father allowed me to allow me to use his extra kit, which was a set of Rogers drums. There was always a kit set up, so after my father would practice, I would try to imitate him. I was playing along with the Beatles, Philly Sound, Motown, Chicago, and others, trying to emulate the various drumming styles. Murray’s received formal instruction from Carl Mottola, Paul Edelman, Paul Albright, Gerry Brown. At the age of 10, Murray was playing gigs with guys in their late teens/early twenties, playing high school dances and clubs. At 17yrs old, Murray began playing professionally, at nightclubs in the Philadelphia area, as well as various gigs on the road. Some of the local bands he had performed with were David Christopher Band, Uproar, Front Line, Sizzle, Gangster, GL & the Front Nine, Alien, Ocean, !0th Ave, Fuzzy Bunny, Fontayne, Northstar, Firth of Fifth, AJ Slick, Simply the Best (Tina Turner Tribute), and more. Some of these bands were the opening act for The Trammps, Wild Cherry, Gloria Gaynor, Vickie Sue Robinson, Tavares, Lisa Lisa, Rich Hall, and more.
